Claudius Alternate, developed by Paul Koch from Rudolf Koch's written models and completed by Gebr. Klingspor, is a free medieval blackletter font. Its dark strokes form compact letters with sharp wedges and interior cuts. Curves end abruptly.
Its manuscript-rooted Gothic style suits historical publishing and museum graphics with an early printed-page atmosphere. For book covers and theatrical posters, the irregular contours can make titles resemble carved or hand-inked lettering.
