Faber Sans Pro Schwer Kursiv by Ingo Zimmermann of ingoFont Augsburg is a free heavy italic sans serif with a forceful, forward-driving stance. Broad strokes and compact joins create a dense silhouette, sharpened by steep diagonals and clipped interior shapes.

Its slanted lettering can echo the direction of speed lines, angular illustrations, and cropped photography in sports posters or music packaging. The same muscular construction suits event graphics and streetwear branding, linking these applications through a sense of motion and concentrated weight.

Faber Sans Pro combines two typefaces: a standard classic-modern sans serif and a stylistic alternate with characters based on uncial scripts from late antiquity and the early Middle Ages.

The original sans serif, Faber Eins & Zwei, was conceived in 1996. It was revised in 2010 and updated for current font technology.

The basic typeface follows the classic-modern style associated with early twentieth-century typefaces such as Futura by Paul Renner and Gill Sans by Eric Gill. Roman Capitalis influenced the proportions of the capital letters, while humanist minuscule forms influenced the lowercase characters.

The stylistic alternate provides alternate forms for the letters a, e, f, g, l, t, and u. The letter r also has an alternate design. OpenType features allow both typefaces to be combined in one font. The stylistic alternates can be accessed through Discretionary Ligatures, Stylistic Alternates, or the glyph panel.

Faber Sans Pro includes a true italic. Its italic characters are based on handwriting styles rather than simply slanted upright forms; they are rounder and have a more fluid stroke flow. The letters a and g have distinct handwritten designs.

All ingoFonts fonts can be downloaded free of charge. The downloadable files contain a reduced character set consisting only of uppercase and lowercase letters from A to Z and a to z.
