Humboldt Fraktur by Dieter Steffmann of Typographer Mediengestaltung is a free blackletter font with broad strokes and hooked contours drawn from traditional Fraktur. Rounded bodies meet sharp, calligraphic turns, and slight irregularities give the letters a hand-cut quality. The forms are compact and forceful.
A historical poster is its strongest setting, especially for subjects drawn from medieval Europe, folklore, or old print culture. It can also shape brewery packaging, music merchandise, and book covers with a deliberately antique voice. The recurring points, curls, and pen-like changes in width echo heraldic ornaments and woodcut illustration.
