Vollkorn Bold by Friedrich Althausen is a free bold serif with broad, sturdy letterforms and an old-style warmth. Its substantial strokes meet compact, softly bracketed serifs, and the rounded letters retain a gently calligraphic shape. Slight irregularities at the stroke ends keep the design from looking mechanical.
Book covers are its strongest setting, where the dense silhouette can give a title an authoritative but approachable voice, and it also suits literary posters and heritage food packaging.
