WoodCut Italic

WoodCut Italic, designed by Dieter Schumacher in 1998, is a free woodcut-style display font with a fast, slanted rhythm and a hacked, hand-carved edge. The caps look gouged from wood or linoleum, with sharp splinters, irregular bites, and little nicks that keep the letters feeling rough rather than merely distressed.

It suits poster titles, horror or pulp cover lines, festival graphics, band merch, and bold packaging where a free font needs a raw printmaking voice. Because the letters lean forward and break apart in uneven cuts, it also works for short title cards, chapter openers, and monograms that want movement without losing that carved-block character.
